Exclusive: backstage at the Met Gala party of Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz-Beckham

The newly married couple celebrated this great evening under the sign of style.

It’s only been three weeks since Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz-Beckham exchanged rings at their lavish Palm Beach wedding,

but the love-struck newlywed couple has quickly settled into married life. “I feel like when we’re in Los Angeles,

I have to get up really early to go to work – so we’ve already become an old married couple,” Nicola says. “We get

into bed at 8 a.m., and we’re so excited to watch a show we’re addicted to. But last night, for the first time in

a long time, we stayed out so late. It was like a parents’ night out,” she adds with a laugh. Men’s Blue/White Photo: Ellen von Unwerth

Last night, of course, was the Met Gala, which the Peltz-Beckhams attended in looks by Valentino, the famous

Italian fashion house whose creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, was also the designer of Nicola’s wedding

dress. “I love Pierpaolo so much as a person – he’s so sweet,” she says. “But he’s also such a genius, and

his designs are impeccable. Every time I wear one of his dresses, I truly feel like a princess. I’m so lucky

to have the opportunity to wear them. I get excited every time.” gavinabt Photo: Ellen von Unwerth

After much deliberation, Nicola opted for the closing look of the house’s Fall/Winter 2022 show, worn on the runway

by Kristen McMenamy, in the distinctive shade of fuchsia that Valentino recently dubbed “Pink PP” after developing

the hue with Pantone. “We had to choose between two dresses, because there was also this green dress that I was madly

in love with, but Pierpaolo told me that he had saved this pink dress for me and he would really like me to try it

on,” she says. “I tried this one on and fell in love with it. It was a really hard decision!” (In the end, she was

able to wear both, taking the green dress out for a spin at one of the evening’s after-parties). New Balance China Fake 577 Photo: Ellen von Unwerth

For their first Met Gala as a married couple, Brooklyn also felt compelled to go all out, wearing a cream

suit with a casual touch thanks to his loose shirt with an open collar, elastic waistband and crisp white

sneakers. “I’m usually very simple and wear black suits, but this year I wanted to add a little bit,” he

explains. “When I first saw this see-through shirt, I thought, ‘Oh my god, can I wear this?’ But it was

so comfortable. It’s definitely one of my favorite outfits I’ve ever worn.” That’s not to say the pair’s

coordinating looks didn’t come without a little negotiation, though. “I always have to match her, it’s never

the other way around,” Brooklyn says. “I think Brooklyn is over it,” Nicola retorts. “Next time, I’ll have

to match her.” “Yeah, that’s never going to happen,” Brooklyn adds, cheekily. kids Photo: Ellen von Unwerth

The couple has made getting ready an art form. “My publicist has also been my best friend for 10 years,

she was with me,” says Nicola. “My makeup artist, Kate Lee, who I’ve also worked with for 10 years, was

there, and I was really excited to work with hairstylist Orlando Pita for the first time. The people

around us are like family, so the prep process is so much fun. It’s just nice to be able to collaborate

with such creative people.” Still, both men burst out laughing when they compare their respective approaches

to preparing for a party. “My process is very different from Brooklyn’s,” says Nicola. “I’m in the hair

and makeup chair for hours, and then Brooklyn says, ‘Count to five minutes,’ and then he jumps in the

shower.” Does Brooklyn really only take five minutes? “I have to admit, it’s very true,” he says, a little

guiltily. https://www.misterpoll.com/users/edgesoil526 Photo: Ellen von Unwerth

Ellen von Unwerth, the legendary fashion photographer, was on hand to immortalize their approach. In a playful

spirit, the couple posed in bed while ordering room service, and even simulated a workout in the hotel gym. “I

love Ellen so much, she’s so talented and fun,” says Nicola. “She brings out the best in everyone and her energy

is so infectious. We laughed the whole time – in all the photos, our faces are hurt by all the smiles.” “She just

has the best personality,” confirms Brooklyn.

So the next step was the red carpet. Although they are both seasoned step-and-repeat pros, they point out that

the Met Gala never fails to make them a little nervous. “It’s very nerve-wracking, I’m not going to lie,” Brooklyn

says. “I don’t think I could do it by myself. It always helps to be with Nicola, because we’re together. We’re

still very nervous, and we’re not used to public speaking or being in front of a group of people. But we had so

much fun, and it was such an honor to be invited back.”

A highlight for the couple was Kacey Musgraves’ cover of the Elvis Presley song “Can’t Help Falling in Love” in

front of guests, which happened to be the soundtrack to their first dance at their wedding last month. “Brooklyn

and I had tears in our eyes, of course,” Nicola says. “It was so beautiful.” After hitting a handful of after-parties,

their so-called “parents’ night” ended – where? – At a pizza place in the wee hours of the morning. “We ended up

at Ray’s Pizza at 6 a.m.,” says Nicola. Surely that was the perfect end to the evening? “It really was,” she continues.

“I was in Valentino haute couture, eating pizza, and feeling very glamorous.”
