No, Birkenstocks are not old-fashioned… The proof in 19 looks

The normcore aesthetic has well and truly taken over fashion.

Slipped on by off-duty tops as well as popular labels, Birkenstocks were born in 1774, under the impetus of Johann

Birkenstock. It was not until a century later that the family business expanded to include shoes with cork soles, which

were then reserved for the medical field. Despite the comfort of its shoes, the German brand struggled to conquer the

fashion world until 1970, when they were finally adopted in the United States by the cool kids. In the 1990’s, the

mythical sandals came in a new chromatic palette over the years. Today, the houses and brands that count compete with

creativity to reinvent the Birkenstock, like Valentino, Proenza Schouler or recently, Dior, the time of its fashion

show Dior Men fall-winter 2022-2023. Style lesson to wear this essential fashion, which has recently conquered the

LVMH group.

The editors’ selection of Birkenstocks for this summer
