8 pieces fashion editors will buy this summer

Two-in-one swimsuits, retro sneakers, baggy pants: all the pieces the editors of Vogue think we should invest in this

summer.

As summer 2021 finally rolls around, it’s time to open the doors to our summer wardrobe of casual outfits with retro

prints. Between the babydoll dresses, the outfits to be worn both at the beach and in the city, here are all the summer

pieces to bet on according to Vogue.

The preference? Voluminous babydoll dresses from the Taylor Dorry brand. Each of her one-of-a-kind pieces is painstakingly

handcrafted from reclaimed upholstery. “I spend a lot of time at thrift stores and yard sales looking for the perfect

fabrics to combine,” the 33-year-old designer of the eponymous brand told Vogue. Her dresses have been worn by actress

Zaina Miuccia, artist Chloe Wise, musician Lou Doillon, photographer Bella Newman and model Fiffany Luu, among others.

A beach look that can also be worn in the city

A graduate of Central Saint Martins School, Louisa Ballou perfectly masters the swimsuit/daytime dress combo, a

must-have for summer 2021. We bet on the “Sex Wax” dress with print (seen on the Duckie Thot top) or on the mini

skirt with matching shirt, already adopted by the stylist Lotta Volkova. At Frankies Bikinis, the ruffled sleeve

swimsuit top is making a comeback and the checkered bikini sets are worn with matching shorts and shirt.

Hybrid heels

This summer, we dare the extravagant shoes. Celebrity shoe expert Margaret Dabbs recommends a little bit of everything

in moderation, a mantra that applies to Birkenstocks, Ancuta Sarca mules (spotted on musician Xiaoqiao) and LVMH-nominated

stilettos by Conner Ives.

Dungarees

Dungarees seem to be the must-have piece for summer 2021. We wear it during the day with its straps while in the

evening, it turns into low-rise pants.

Retro sneakers

We opt this summer for 70’s inspired sneakers. Where to find them? At adidas, Re/Done and Loewe.

XXS shorts

While comfy indoor wear hasn’t been this popular since the health crisis, the summer season gives us permission

to wear the most regressive outdoor trends such as boxy looks. The inspiration? Italian label Comme Si’s “Classica”

and Live The Process’ “Celeste”.

Gotham

Kendall Jenner’s spring outfit spotted on the streets of New York last April (in a The Row total-look) was the

talk of the town. Between the crisp white shirt and the mini heel sandals, the Open Minded star (Vogue’s new YouTube

series dedicated to mental health) delivered a real inspirational style lesson for this summer: https://bigshoecompanies.wordpress.com/2021/12/04/air-force-100-nike-nike-air-force-100/ . The piece to invest in to replicate her look? A pair of elegant oversized beige pants.

A crochet bob

Prized by Vogue stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who is behind Hailey Bieber’s California look in the pages

of the June/July issue of American Vogue, the crochet bob and geometric prints are this summer’s top trend.

To be found at Memorial Day or Cro-Che.
