Kamala Harris’ daughter-in-law embodies the fashion of tomorrow for Proenza Schouler

Ella Emhoff inaugurated her modeling career on the distant catwalk of New York designers, delivering a clear and

strong message: tomorrow’s fashion is on the way. And Proenza Schouler will be part of it.

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez were lucky: they got the exclusive with Ella Emhoff for their fall-winter 2021-2022

show. The daughter-in-law of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, freshly signed to IMG Models after her high-profile

appearance at Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration and praised ever since for her bold Gen Z looks, was THE model

to book in New York this season. It must be said that few brands embody the intello-arty spirit of the American metropolis

as well as Proenza Schouler, seeing Ella Emhoff in one of the collection’s key looks – a reinterpretation of the

suit where the jacket is fitted in the back and open on the belly – was finally almost logical.

“She represents a new chapter, especially for Americans,” said Jack McCollough in a Zoom conference after

the show, from their Brooklyn home.

She is the perfect Proenza woman: she studies art at Parsons and represents intelligence, authenticity, science…

she puts the general discourse into a normal context.

A normalcy that he believes America needs more than ever. This is also what they wanted to translate sartorially,

in a collection that follows in the footsteps of their last presentations: structured looks in a palette

of sober tones, offset by the softness of long knitted dresses, handcrafted details in crochet and macramé,

and plays of counter-forms. The collection was unveiled on a dedicated platform, where you can see the fashion

show filmed at the Parrish Art Museum and the detailed looks, which can already be pre-ordered.

“The collection has one foot in the reality of the world we’ve been living in this past year, with this idea

of cocooning, comfort and introspection,” explains Lazaro Hernandez.

But it also evokes what the future might look like. More personal clothes, not too frivolous or ostentatious.

On the eve of Proenza Schouler’s 20th anniversary, both designers are ready to approach the next world with

the same energy as they did in the beginning. By choosing Ella Emhoff to embody the fashion we will enter:
